PERSONAL INVOLVEMENT

I was the project lead for this GameJam, personally focused on utilising the team as much as I could.

My focus was on working with the artists, prorammers and designers to make this project as jam packed as it could be.

PLANNING

The main challenge we faced was the restrictive screen size, as the Jam has us building a Game for the Northampton Power Tower, which displays at a 213x1080 Display, not giving us a great deal to work with

The display size reminded us of classic arcade machines, the limited development time would make this our best bet at making something fundamentally solid.
We wanted to utilise the fact that the game was on the side of a building, the Novelty would put us ahead.

Everything came together to our main idea. Being a Window Cleaner on the side of a New York Skycraper... During an alien invasion.

Our initial idea was to have the game played on a grid, with random windows breaking and the player needing to to fix them with any button, keeping it incredibly simple.
But this was far to simple, it made the core gameplay loop very disengaging. So using our input method to our advantage, we expanded it.

Xbox controllers have colours asociated with each face button, we decided to use colour to distinguish what face button the player should use.

From this development went very smoothly, we had everything and more prepped for the showcase day.

ON THE BIG SCREEN

The input lag that the screen caused made the game incredibly challenging to play, but the game was incredibly enjoyable, and looked great on the screen.

We won the jam, with window man being crowned the best game overall.

While the competion was fierce and all of the other games were excellent, I think the novelty of it being on the side of a building helped sell it!
